Storyboard & User Testing

Since I have two different users, I have to make two different sets of storyboards. This week I focused one the “artists” side because I have an artist scheduled for MVP/concept testing.

I created six different scenes to state the key problems. During the interview, I showed my user these six storyboards while verbally explaining the story and the artists’ user journey. To summarize the narrative, Julia is a full-time businesswoman who never gave up her painting as a hobby. She paints and sells her work through Instagram and gets a lot of likes and messages on free time. Sometimes her DMs can get really overwhelming — people consistently ask different questions about the painting, the material, the payment methods, whether if she commissions, etc. She has a hard time to manage her Instagram workflow. Additionally, when she is making her commission, clients have all kinds of inquiries. She does not know how to communicate with them effectively while pushing through the deadline of everything.

For solution, I wanted to showcase six core features and have the users not only to comment on these features but also to rate each other the features, so I can have both qualitative and quantitive data. For the six solution storyboards, I explained each storyboard with short phrase:

  1. Directly connecting Instagram page onto our service with listed prices
  2. Prioritize your requests and inquiries by looking through buyers’ preference
  3. Personalized calendar helps you to keep track your workflow and your ongoing client requests and inquiries
  4. Auction house for a more flexible exchange
  5. Tip system that helps buyers to reinforce these genuine gestures and to connect with the artists for the future
  6. Live streaming feature helps artists to gain more buyers and supporters while getting some help (tips) from the viewers.

Result

My participant really liked the tip idea, he said it is subtle and helpful. He also really liked the auction feature, which he feels curious about how popular would this feature get and how would he get a ideal price from the final offer. However, he did feel skeptical about live streaming, because he feels like Youtube Live and Twitch are the existing platform that people know about. He said “I wouldn’t want to go on a new platform to start streaming with 0 followers, that’s just too much work, unless I already have a lot of audience or followers. I want to feel motivated to stream instead of treating it as a duty”

For next step, I will create another set of storyboard for the buyer side and conducting the same type of interview.
